Speech Sounds
Some children may produce sounds in a different way as they are learning to talk. This may result in articulation difficulties, where particular sounds are produced the wrong way, like 's' or 'th'. Or, as phonological processes, where the patterns or rules of the English language are not fully understood.
Stuttering
Stuttering is a speech motor disorder which interupts the flow of speech sounds. It is characterised by repetitions of initial sounds, words and phrases (e.g. 'm-m-my turn'), prolongations of sounds (e.g. 'mmmy turn) and blocking the sounds before it can be produced.
Receptive Language
Receptive language is the ability to understand and process language. This can have an impact on a child's success in following instructions, and, understanding spoken words and stories.
Expressive Language
Expressive language is the ability to express our ideas and messages, by joining words together to form sentences, with the use of appropriate vocabulary and grammar.
Social Skills
Social skills are often referred to as pragmatics. Included in this area is an understanding of how to play with others, making and maintaining meaningful relationships and problems solving in a variety of social situations.
Literacy
Literacy is the ability to read and write in a range of contexts. This can be broken down into phonological awareness (pre-literacy skills), spelling, punctuation, comprehenson, reading and writing.
School Readiness
Nurturing the transition from preschool to primary school by supporting functional skills to encourage independence and an enjoyment of learning.
Feeding
Assisting feeding skills through all stages, from first learning the skill of sucking, through to swallowing a variety of solid foods. Difficulties can occur as a result of structural, behavioural or psychological issues.
